COLDPLAY & The 84 Year Old Human Rubber band!

Have you ever seen a octogenarian, and a 25 year old "sausage factory" dance partner in nothing more than sequined thongs? Probably not. But it's worth trying anything once, so check out the hilarious new video from Coldplay. Oh, and watch out for Chris Martin's ever expanding afro hairstyle!

  Spencer and Barbara

ASR Backline (Orlando) supplied the backline gear for the video shoot for "The Hardest Part", and also supplied some audio bits and pieces to boot!   Special thanks to Chris and the lads for the support, and we always look forward to seeing them again in the future!

Coldplay explain oddball clip
9/05/2006 10:06:00 AM

Coldplay have revealed the inspiration behind the surreal new music video for their new single and current [V] Ripe clip, 'The Hardest Part'.  Of course, the hardest part for viewers is understanding the band's motivation of using footage of a scantily-clad geriatric dancer and a buffed mullet-boy.  There's no doubt the video has generated more discussion and laughs than any previous Coldplay video and already lapped the world several times over via email.  In an interview with the clip's director Mary Wigmore in the band's e-zine, she reveals the original dance routine by Spencer and Barbara was taken from a morning talk show called 'Attitudes' filmed in Miami, Florida in 1990.  The band were then blue-screened in as the house band, with great care taken to replicate the original talk show camera angles. Similar plants were brought in and huge fans used to recreate the wind effect. According to Wigmore, Barbara passed away several years ago, but Gene still resides in California. Wigmore had been sitting on the video footage (not literally) for over five years, waiting for the perfect opportunity to use it.  While it may have viewers scratching their heads as they watch captivated, Coldplay, by all reports, were thrilled with the result. "They were very enthusiastic about the idea from the beginning," says Wigmore

2003 ISC Daytona 500 Grand Marshal's Dinner

Mariah Carey on stage and enjoying the Martin system at the Daytona 500 Grand Marshal’s Ball.

ASR ProEvents of Central Florida provided sound reinforcement systems and support for the Daytona 500 Grand Marshal’s Ball, held the night before NASCAR’s biggest race of the year.

The event was held at the 8,700-square-foot Grand Ballroom of the Adams Mark Daytona Beach Resort and featured a performance by Mariah Carey, with Wayne Brady serving as emcee. Actor John Travolta was the Grand Marshal for this year’s race.

Approximately 850 attended the event. ASR ProEvents was in charge of sound for a very discriminating crowd, not the least of which was the man in charge, Cap Spence, also the production manager for the Super Bowl.

ASR ProEvents provided a main system with four
Martin Audio W8L line array systems flown to each side of the ballroom stage, joined by Martin WSX subwoofer systems.

The problem we’ve had in the past with this client is achieving maximum coverage with minimum decibels, explains ASR Audio Production Manager Kenny Holton. “Every year is a challenge because we’re in different ballrooms and they’re not conventional rooms the way it’s set up with all of the scenic elements, so we have to get real creative about how we fly the PA. It worked out perfect this year because we had to hang the PA in such a way that it shouldn’t have worked, but it did.”

In addition to the Martin Audio loudspeakers, ASR used a Yamaha PM4000 for front of house and Yamaha PM4000M for monitors, proprietary ASR Soundworx wedges, QSC Power Light amps for front of house, with a Klark-Teknik DN9848 processing.

Staff for this hugely successful conclusion to the biggest race in NASCAR included Darryl Jones, FOH engineer, Scott Hayes, asst. production manager and Michele Ranalli, production assistant. Holton supervised Audio & Backline for the event.

2002 ISC Daytona 500 Grand Marshal's Dinner

ASR ProSound was once again asked to participate in this years Annual International Speedway Corporation Daytona 500 Grand Marshal's Dinner.

The event, which was produced by Cap Spence of
Nightwatch Management, featured a variety of specialized vendors from Central Florida. "We have participated before with this event, states Kenny Holton, "and we were very honored to have the opportunity to take the challenges of this years gala. "Audio is a very strong concern with this particular client", states Holton.  "We had some very restricting demands put upon us from the design phase, and had to approach this job with the latest of speaker technologies."

Special thanks to Bruce Pierce with McCauley Sound Products. Bruce was very helpful in the exact configuration of the McCauley Monarch MLA5 Line Array System that ASR has had on demo for the last 2 weeks. "There was not a bad seat in the house", states Holton. As you can see from some of the pictures below, the (hidden) Array was to be flown at a 30' trim height, which is very restricting for most PA Enclosure's. In total, We flew 6 MLA5 Boxes per side, with 4 Subs, and it was just perfect!  This years entertainment was none other than The Tonight Show Star Jay Leno, and Swing Band Sensations Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Leno started the "Ball Rolling" by riding a Harley Davidson through the audience and right up on the stage!

Other keynote speakers included John Graham, Vice President of the International Speedway Corporation; Giant's Cornerback Jason Seahorn, aka Mr. Angie Harmon! Also in attendance was ISC President William C. France, Dallas Cowboy's Owner Jerry Jones, Jeff Gordon & Rick Hendricks of Hendricks Racing.  BBVD took the stage and there was a noticeable participation with this crowd, which in past events have fled for higher ground when the live music started. "No one left", states Holton. "They all stayed and listened to the Band, and obviously seemed to enjoy the entire program."

Special thanks again to Cap Spence and his staff at
Nightwatch Management for yet another Top Notch Event!

ASR ProEvents & Stargazer Concerts produced another SRO Crowd this past weekend at Manatee Convention Center.  The bill included such legends as Johnny River, Eric Burdon & Mitch Ryder.  We took this time to bullet test the EAW KF760-761 Line Array System that we have been showcasing with a variety of our touring clients in the past Month.  You can always tell when everyone enjoys the show, when they make a point of stopping by FOH to thank you personally!, states ASR's Kenny Holton.

Beach Boys & "Baby Blue"

Brian "Baby Huey-20%" Gerner

ASR & The Beach Boys finished up a two week run in Port Charlotte Florida to a near capacity crowd.  This run marked the fiftieth date with The Beach Boys this year.  "They are such a joy to work with", states ASR's Kenny Holton.  For this Mini-Tour we decided to take our "Baby Blue" hybrid Floodlight & Flashlight Rig.  This rig was perfect for the variety of venues we visited on the multi-state run adds Holton.

ASR's Brian "Baby Huey" Gerner gets his mixing debut by "Trial By Fire" when he is chosen to mix the local 14pc. opener.  "Actually he did a great job, and only got heckled to turn it up once or twice" states Holton... What the crowd failed to realize was that Gerner on had 9 channels to mix with!

Look for Gerner in the latest issue of PLAYGIRL Magazine!

We would also like to send out our profound heart felt condolences to the Mail Box at ASR, It was in a slight territorial "dispute" with our Tractor Trailer!

MTV UNPLUGGED

ASR recently completed a taping session for the MTV "Unplugged" Video Series and subsequent live album of the Latin Supergroup LA LEY.  The Audio Production was simply fantastic according to Record Producer Humberto Gatica.  ASR Audio Lead Craig Beyrooti designed the system that was made up of TURBOSOUND "Floodlight" and the new "TQ Series" self powered cabinets.  The particular challenges of the Audio design, which was staged at the Miami Broadcast Center, was to cover 360° degree of Audience, and enough flown "low profile" boxes to cover the  venue.

Jaded Performance

May 27 2001

It is only fitting that the first addition to this section is an event that is close to everyone's hearts,  The Children's Miracle Network!

The Champions Broadcast will air June 2-3, 2001, on WJXT

The mission of the Children's Miracle Network (CMN) is to generate funds and awareness to serve the medical needs of children at affiliated hospitals. Established nationally in 1983, CMN is a network of 170 medical organizations dedicated to one goal - helping children. In Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, CMN benefits the pediatric programs at Shands Jacksonville and Wolfson Children's Hospital.

CMN hospitals treat over 12 million children each year with all types of conditions - cancer, heart and muscular diseases, birth defects, AIDS and accident injuries. CMN hospitals serve all children in medical need, regardless of the family’s ability to pay. Departments in both hospitals that benefit from CMN funds are NICU, Trauma, Critical Care, Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Intensive Care, Pediatric Emergency, Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant, Dentistry and Women and Infant Services. CMN has also funded a vaccination van and has assisted with the development of a dental van to provide these services to underprivileged children in the area.

The Champions Broadcast will air June 2-3, 2001, on WJXT - The One and Only Channel 4. The program will be hosted by CMN Chairman Jeff Lageman and the Channel Four news team.

ASR ProEvents will provide scenic elements for the broadcast.

We will post pictures soon!
